Renting in Scotland is changing and every day we help tenants and landlords navigate this. Recently, we've seen an increasing number of tenants seeking advice about how to manage rent on top of the increased cost of everyday essentials such as energy, food and fuel. We are also seeing landlords who are facing pressure to manage higher mortgage payments.
Having a safe, secure and sustainable home is of foundational importance and we want everyone to know that the Citizens Advice network in Scotland is here for you, with free, confidential and impartial advice.
This is why we're launching Keep Renting Right, a local campaign for CABs, aiming to inform and empower tenants and landlords about their renting rights and responsibilities.

Get help as a tenant
- Check our online advice pages for help if your landlord wants to increase your rent from our public advice site.
- Use the Scottish Government indicative rent calculator to check if your rent increase is fair - and contact your local CAB for next steps if you wish to contest the increase.
- Get further advice from Shelter Scotland on checking if your landlord can increase your rent.

- If you are struggling with mortgage increases, find out your options as a landlord from our public advice site, or contact your local CAB for help and advice.
- Read Scottish Government's online advice about what to consider if you're thinking of increasing tenants' rent. The Scottish Government indicative rent calculator will help check what a fair increase could look like.
